It's Papertrey Ink Sr. DT challenge day!!! Holy cow... it's October too... how very strange that is to me. Time is evaporating at an astounding rate this year.Well, this month we are all sharing banners using the big Banner Builder dies! I was excited about this challenge... because I was ready to make some Christmas decorations!
Every year my children look forward to marking the days on my little Christmas countdown that I made several years back. I thought it was time to create a new one that would fit with my living room Christmas decor. I was excited when the idea to do a banner with a countdown element popped into my head!
Here's by little banner!
I used both of the Triangle Banner dies and the Banner Borders die. I wanted something that would be around for my grandchildren to see... so I used felt for most everything.. There is a lot of brown and green in my living room so I made sure that those were strong elements. Here are all the banner sections...
The center. Also the countdown element. I'll show how that works at the end of the post.I used fillable frames #4 die as well as the scalloped circle from Love at home and Holly Jolly dies. I used the largest button die to cut the center circle from the white felt. There is some cut overlap on it, but it's covered by the holly... which I planned.
This tree shows the Love Lives Here: Holiday tree die and Harvest Berries die for the bulbs.
Peace be still snowflake die, Button die and the heart from the butterfly in the Love Lives Here collection.
Same heart for this one.. as well as the Love Lives Here: Holiday Mitten die.
Lastly, the present from the Make a Wish collection and another button die.
I used these little altered tacks to hang it up... it ties in so nicely! Hot glue, I tell ya!
OK, here is a close up of the countdown element of the banner. This took me a little to work out how I wanted to do it. Hopefully it will make sense to you too.
I die cut the frame from both the felt and clear acetate sheet, clear cardstock. Then die cut the circle and white circle element. I used hot glue to adhere everything together. Next I hot glued foam squares to the back of that frame, creating a gutter or slot for the cardstock pieces to slid into... and bee seen through the window. Hot glue was my best friend for this project!
I could see some of the foam from the back... and that bugged me. I also had to figure out a realistic place to store the other papers. So, I die cut another felt frame and punched holes on the top and bottom, put some Bakers twine through it and hot glued it to the back. (No more ugly foam showing!) You can see how I tied the papers to the banner. I might get a little elastic to add later, but this was what I had on had and It really works well.
Isn't this all SO fun! I feel SO blessed to be able to work with Papertrey Ink...such a top notch company! I love that as a designer, I get to use the best quality of products out there that are also fresh and innovative. Also, I get to work along side the best designers in the industry!
