Impressive, To Die For Tips & Tricks!

April 1st? Seriously? Oh, how time flies! My oldest Daughter just turned 17 a few days ago... I sort of wish I could push the pause button on time just so I could savor things a little more!

One great thing about time passing is that it is time again for the Papertrey Ink Senior Design Team Challenge! We were charged to share a few tips and tricks about the amazing new Papertrey Ink Impression plates! One of the funnest things about getting new products is the journey of discovery for potential, unforeseen, uses. Sometimes the memory of an old technique triggers a new way of doing something ...and that's exactly what happened with this card!

Let me explain what I meant by that. I used to wet my cardstock before crinkling it to get a neat texture. I thought I would try to mist my paper before impressing it with the Polka Dot Basics II impression plate...

  

The result is an even crisper pressed look. A very interesting variation huh! You can see a little difference from the Giga Guidelines Impression plate. 

I stamped the Leaf corner image from Heavenly Medley and the sentiment is from Year of Flowers: Daffodils. The little strip of Fresh Snow velvet ribbon adds some softness. And let me tell you...It nearly killed me NOT to sponge anything but I was determined to create something crisp and clean! A fresh cotton sort of vibe.

Here is something fun fun... did you realize that you can impress envelope flaps! (and no... I didn't mist the envelope, for obvious reasons. lol!) Simply place the mats in between the flap and envelop before impressing! I just love the possibilities with this! You can also get a great result with glassine bags, Vellum and so much more! Let me tell you... this month holds some amazing additions too! ;)

Poppy Seed Challenge #2 Bloomers!

WOW! Seriously.... WOW!!!

This challenge was met with AMAZING projects! It literally took me a whole day to figure out which to choose... I eventually quit the wrestling match with myself and decided to add some honorable mentions.

I was really drawn to unique elements that seemed to just bring these cards to life. There is a ton of inspiration from not just these Bloomers, but the other entrants.  Look at the details... you will learn SO much from that little extra something... it could be a new type of layering, the way the elements are organized, unique colors, an interesting texture etc.  I was overwhelmingly IMPRESSED!!!

A good friend...

  I keep forgetting to share one of my cards from the Paper Crafts special issue, Card Creations: Start to finish. I thought I would do that today... showing my favorite card of the ones I made for this issue.
 
  

This is actually one of the very first card I created using On My Couch and On My Couch Additions! Fun huh!

I loved how great the chair looked using the various Papertrey Ink patterned papers... still do! LOL! There is a little trick to aligning the patterned paper on the card front that I mention in the magazine. ;)

 

I really loved this sentiment and I thought it fit perfectly when I created the sets. There are a few friends that are just like this for me. I always know that they will be there for me. Such a special feeling!

There is a full supply list and instructions in this issue... you can find it here! This really is a great issue and shows so many design follow through ideas that are really well done.

BTW... There is a few more days to enter into the Poppy Seed Challenge #2. There are so many great projects already. You will get a ton of inspiration checking out when ideas blossomed from the seed!

Bright Spring Hello

Spring here in the Northwest is very green and filled with bright colors... so when I think of spring I think of Red and Bright yellow, like the local tulip and Daffodil fields. Those were the inspiration for today's card! I know this isn't the color norm that we think of with spring... pastels usually take front seat. I just love bright and cheery!!! (Think happy smiling tulip fields overflowing with color! sigh.)

 

There are a few details that I wanted to point out. The sentiment is stamped with Outlines Alphabet to create the BG paper, then again as the focal image. The spring sentiment is from Springtime Doodles and is a nice contrast to the alphabet, adding some whimsy. There is some die cut rickrack patterned paper that matches the die cut flowers... tying it all together. Pearl centers as a little shine without taking the spotlight away from the sentiment.

So... this is a bit more scrappy than I usually do. But I personally like breaking away from my norm and trying something new. My oldest Daughter loves it. I'm still digesting it... I think it sits well though. LOL!

Poppy Seed Challenge #2

Are you ready???

 

(for my newer friends that are just learning about the Poppy Seed Challenge, visit this blog post for an explanation) I really appreciate you posting the above graphic on you blog post too... but it's by far not a requirement.

I thought that in honor of St. Patrick's Day green needed to be the color of choice!!!

  

You might have spied this over at Nichole's blog a few weeks ago... but I hadn't had a chance to share it here. I used Baby Button Bits and Polka Dot basics II to create this lovely. My craft knife was used to trim out the pod for the buttons to sit in.

I adore the Large Kraft Coffee bags for gifts... so amazingly easy to create with!

So... here is your chance to bloom! Take the three seeds and make sure you use at least one of EACH on your project. One Button, One Light Moss something and cluster of polka dots. (One dot wouldn't really be a polka dot huh! LOL!)  Five (5) projects will be chosen to be highlighted on my blog. The deadline for entering is Thursday March 25th at 11:30 PM PST.(Mr. Linky will close by itself then) Bloomers will be posted no later than March 28th. Papertrey Ink March 2010

March is full of the hope of spring. Papertrey Ink's newest stamps as so in line with that... it make me just smile! Here are my projects using some of the newly released stamp sets from March!

Here we go...

  

Wonderfully Whimsical. Such a fun whimsical set. I also used Pine's new Green Boutique Paper. (Love this paper SO very much!)
 

Delightful Dahlia and Distressed Stripes. Don't you just LOVE these flowers!!! I used the Dies to cut them out and I also used the new Giga Guidlines Impression plate add texture to the project. (I'm SO glad that Papertrey has dies now... I'm in love!)

 

Beautiful Blooms II... I went for an 80's retro look for this card. More coordinating dies here... as well as my favorite die, Rickrack!

 

Year of Flowers: Daffodils.Wow! Living in grand Tulip and Daffodil country... this set it such a treat! I love seeing the fields in bloom... breathtaking I tell you!

Springtime Doodles

 Today I get to share a few creations that I've come up using Papertrey Ink's soon to be released stamp set, Springtime doodles!

This set, by Beth Siliaka, is filled with sweet spring images and versatile sentiments allowing for multi-occasion use.

On to the cards!

This first on is my favorite that I made with the set. 
 

I used Copic Markers to color and shade the sweet butterfly image then highlighted the body with glitter. Next I trimmed out the butterfly sides and squared off the rest of the cardstock with my trimmer... giving the card the effect that the butterflies are taking flight!

Did you notice how the white bow mimics a third butterfly? fun huh!

I used Background Basics: Botanicals (also being released this month) to create some Background paper. (I love stamping backgrounds!) I love the Small Scallop Die cut trim on the bottom too. I was nearly finished with the card and felt that something was just missing... I grabbed my die and cardstock and Voila! It really made a HUGE difference!

The next two cards are ones I consider quick and easy! Let's be honest... we all need easy to create, 10 minute cards!

I went full spring colors for this next one...

 

I stamped the images in the Hibiscus Burst and New leaf then added a clear Crystal. Next I used a yellow Copic Marker to color the crystal. Love being able to do that!

Next I used a C1 Copic to shade the flower. The Thanks sentiment is embossed with White powder to make it pop, then punched out and strategically placed amongst the lemon Tart die cut Rickrack. (this card is 5 x 4 1/4 inches)

I've been loving Soft Stone cardstock and thought this little snail would be fun using with it. (this is a 5 x 3 1/2 inch card)

  

I wanted to add motion to the snail so I added the dotted swirl line image in a way that made it seem like the snail has traveled forward from the back of the card. Fun huh! I used Copic markers again to color in the snail then added glitter to the shell. Isn't he a happy looking fella!
 

The little Hello sentiment is punched out with a circle punch then centered in the cross section of the RickRack die cut Sweet Blush strips and the buttons. I stamped the Soft Stone cardstock with Polka Dot Basics II in Fresh snow to add even more softness. Sweet and simple!

Trendy Tabs

It's that time again! Group post day for the Papertrey Ink Design Team!

This month we are showcasing the amazing new stamp set by Heather Nichols, Mini Scrapbook Series: Tabs. (Available March 15th through Papertrey Ink)

I had an "Ah-ha!" moment with this set that i wanted to share too!

This set has a plethora of sentiments and tap images that are perfect for so many things. Scrap pages, Mini books, Composition books, list books and cards just to name a few! (See the little New Leaf tab die cut tab on the side of my card?) Now... notice how those little tab images fit so quaintly into the flower petals of this Marvy Giga flower punch! I embossed everything except the flower stamp to really make the card POP!

I used Polka Dot Basics II and the soon to be released Background Basics: Botanical stamp set to add dimension. A little Zva Creative Crystal flourish is used to bling it up a bit.

I love being able to create something unexpected with a stamp set. I'm in love with stamping and it's little discoveries like this that keep me enthralled! BTW... I'm totally loving the newest Papertrey Ink color, LOVING IT!

Pebbles Favorites

Today I thought it would be fun to share a little card I created using my favorite, so far, Pebbles product.... the Shimmer Chalks. Yes... I know I've already said that I liked them... but hey I wanted to play more with them, so why not share something new!!! (Make sure to keep reading to see how you can possibly win some Pebbles Sweetness!)

 

I used papers from the Lil' Miss line. Aren't they sweet! I love the way that they utilize warm colors and happy graphics. *sigh*  I thought that my stamp from Out of the Box was a perfect match with the style too... not to mention great for using those awesome chalks. (Make sure to click on the photos to see the detail!)

This solid stamp image is stamped onto the cardstock after I ran an Embossing Buddy (static reducer) over it. Doing that allowed the chalk to fall away from the negative space part of the image, the flowers. Such a cleaner look when you do this! One thing to remember about chalks in general is that they look better when you lightly pounce them onto your stamped image. (that's just been my experience.) OK... are you seeing why I love them so much???

Before I go... I wanted to let you know that the Poppy Seed Challenge top 5 will be announced first thing tomorrow morning! It's the entrants fault it's taking so long... SO much talent out there... I love it!!! I've even come up with a special name for the top 5. Any guesses? Hint: It's what happens after a poppy seed thrives!
