When I first saw the new Papertrey Ink set, Floral Frenzy I had several ideas pop into my head... I think Melissa did a fantastic job on this whimsical graphic set. I like that it's versatile and can be shabby, retro, modern, clean or vintage depending how you choose to use it. One thing I look for when I get a stamp set is if the bases are usable for any fun shapes... Floral Frenzy has just that... some great bases. This makes for a "more bang for your buck" kind of set! I wanted to create something fun with the circle base of the smaller of the full daisy shape flower.
I knew I wanted to make some custom pattern paper and that I wanted some precision in my pattern. I chose to lightly pencil lines both ways on the Vintage Cream Cardstock creating squares measuring 1 1/2". I then stamped my base image in the selected color in each of the squares. (making sure to alternate colors)
Next I stamped my Flower image in Dark Chocolate onto each of the flowers.
I have an art eraser that I typically use, but the standard ol' eraser did the trick for me.
The final step on the paper for me was to add color pops to the center of the flowers. I wanted to keep the inked look and chose to stamp the color and punch it out instead of just using the paper. It really lent a more rustic look to the final project. Now... What to make with it? Soooo many possibilities!
It's been a while since I made a custom composition book...it was time! I wanted something that was full of color yet warm and inviting. This was a pretty quick project to make and would be a lovely gift for a friend!
Here are a few tips I use when creating these fun notebooks...Paint the edge, Use a good liquid adhesive (I use Zip Dry by Beacon), Hand trim the corners and if you plan on this being a high use/handled project use a sealant like Krylon's Matte finish clear spray. (I chose not to use it for this notebook)
Some design notes- A little bit of the Berry Sorbet satin ribbon was a perfect color pop for this green corner... adding more balance.
The binding was painted with a yellow first, sprinkles with glitter then painted green. This gave it it's texture and broke up the green color a bit.
Sponging is my best stamping friend! LOL!...But honestly I think it adds depth and helps the other colors in a project pop.
I can only imagine the fun patterns that you will create when you have this lovely set... can't wait to see!
Make sure to check out Nichole's blog for her amazing project and Melissa's blog for her sneak peek!
have a creative weekend!
